Joseph CarverInspired by the great jazz bassist Ray Brown, Joe Carver began playing the double bass at the age of 14. During his studies at Eastman,Juilliard, Banff, Marlboro, Tanglewood, Stony Brook, and after, his range expanded to include all aspects of the classical repertoire, from 20th century music to early music performance. Mr. Carver appears frequently at music festivals in the U.S. and France, including Marlboro, Prussia Cove, Les Recontres Musicales de Haute Provence, and Musique a L'Empiri . He has toured and performed with ensembles such as the Musicians from Marlboro, the Takacs and Cherubini String Quartets, Les Arts Florissants, L'Ensemble Intercontemporaine, Les Solistes de Moscouw, L'Ensemble Moderne, and the Bang On A Can All-Stars. Mr. Carver has been a regular member of L'Orchestre des Champs Elysees since 1992. Joe continues to be an active jazz bassist, working with pianists Eric Watson and drummer Ed Thigpen, with the Christopher Culpo trio, and with Benoit Delbecq and Steve Arguelles in "Paintings."

Chamber Music:
  • Performances with the Takacs (including recording on Decca of Schubert's "Trout" Quintet), Cherubini and Turner String Quartets.
  • Frequent invitee of the Marlboro and Prussia Cove Institutes; tours with the "Musicians from Marlboro" and the "Musicians of the I.M.S." (Prussia Cove).
  • Guest appearances at the Crested Butte, Saintes (France), and Flanders (Belgium) festivals, as well as at the "Musical Meetings of Haute Provence" and "Music at L'Empiri" (performances with Paul Meyer and Gerard Causde).
  • Regular appearances with the "Soloists of Moscow" (Yuri Bashmet), Il Seminario Musicale, and with "Les Solistes de l'Orchestre des Champs Elysees".
