Training for Doctors in Advanced Cardiac Imaging

Course Description: Advanced Cardiac Imaging Program is a comprehensive cardiac imaging training program All participants leave the program well-versed in cardiac CTA, trained to perform and interpret studies independently back at your office or hospital. The key features of this program include the number of live cases daily done on the best CT scanners currently available, hands-on post-processing experience with Dr. Poon, and a variety of interesting cases from a library of over 10,000 studies performed/interpreted. Participants will acquire the minimum recommended training according to SCCT guidelines for level II/level III certification

Course Director: Michael Poon, MD, Professor of Medicine and Radiology, immediate past president SCCT

Target Audience: Cardiologists or other healthcare professionals interested in cardiac imaging and cardiac disease prevention.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:
    • Assess clinical indications and contraindications for cardiac CT, as well as patient preparation
    • Demonstrate clear understanding of the various types of CT scanners available for cardiovascular imaging (EBT and MDCT)
    • Interpret cardiovascular CT cases, including quality assessment of data, evaluation of the clinical indications and risks vs. benefits of the procedure
    • Employ current clinical guidelines and indications for performing cardiac CT within the procedure’s indications and limitations
Continuing Medical Education Credits: The School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

The School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook designates this activity for a maximum of 72 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Schedule: 36 hours is required for level II certification, 72 hours for level III. The course is typically 8:00am-6:00pm Monday – Thursday starting on the following dates:
    Level II - Jun 22 - 25
    Level III - Jun 29 - Jul 2
    Level II - Aug 24 - 27
    Level III - Aug 31 - Sept 3
    Level II - Oct 26 - 29
    Level III - Nov 1 - Nov 5
